Share Your Journey with Kindred Souls
(continued)

One of the great truths that's been passed down from the ancient mystery schools, the Sufi tradition, and numerous other spiritual traditions is that we can only go so far along our spiritual path by ourselves. At some point—a definable, known point—we must add another "octave," so to speak, to our Quest for enlightenment, healing, and wholeness.

In short, we must begin to work with others while continuing our individual spiritual strivings. We must join with others who have a common aim and preferably within a "school" environment facilitated by those who have already walked the path we wish to walk.

Why would this be so? To answer this, we must understand three ancient principles:

1) Everybody we see around us is a perfect mirror of us.

2) Two or more people working together toward a common cause have a synergistic effect, i.e. the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

3) In order to continue learning and evolving, it's necessary that we pass on what we have already been given.

Taking the second point first, one person alone can only do so much. Two people can do a little more. A group of people can do a lot more. This is practical common sense. We see how this works in the everyday world.

For example, a one-man business is limited by how much time and effort the one man can put into it. If he then hires employees or takes on partners, not only can he spread out the work load, but he can also increase it. A company with thousands of employees can grow to global proportions. In addition to this, apart from the obvious work-load benefit, the interaction of many people with different perspectives, different talents, and different ways of doing things increases the quality and scope of what the company can offer.

This collective synergy applies equally to the energy of our consciousness. When united by a common aim—in our case, by a Quest for higher consciousness—the energy of collective consciousness "lines up" like photons in a laser light and becomes amplified beyond the sum of its parts.

Speaking practically, when we're on our own, there is little that can help us out of the natural valleys of our changing moods. This is when we appreciate a helping hand or a few words of encouragement. Conversely, when we are on the hilltop, we have much to offer to others in terms of helping them out of their valleys.

With enough people of different types and who have different "rhythms" of consciousness, all our valleys are offset by others' hilltops and vice versa, particularly when we all share the same Quest. So, the whole group keeps moving forward steadily.

Regarding the third point, if we try to hold onto what we have been given without passing it on to others, it gradually becomes like a dam in us. It stops the flow of new energy/consciousness/learning into us.

All life is about the movement of energy/consciousness up and down the octaves of Creation and Evolution. We are part of this flow. When we fail to allow it to flow through us for the benefit of others, our own evolution stalls, and it may even make us sick, because if we are not moving up the ladder of consciousness, we will soon start moving back down. Nothing in this material/energetic Universe is static.

So, if we wish to evolve further, we must start to pass on what we have learned. The student becomes the teacher in some way so that they can then become a new student to a higher teacher.

Regarding the first point, i.e. that everybody around us is a perfect mirror of us, this truth is quite an involved subject—more than we can cover here.

Suffice to say, what I see in others—what "jumps" out at me—whether good or bad, is what I see in myself, whether I acknowledge it or not. What I condemn in another is what I dislike in myself, secretly, consciously, or unconsciously. What I admire in another is what I like in myself, but may not realize or acknowledge this. In addition, the degree that I like or dislike a trait in another is the degree I like or dislike the trait in me.

What we like in others creates attraction, and what we dislike in others creates repulsion.

This is the basis of all relationship, whether we're talking about intimate, romantic relations, or whether we're talking about friends, family, workmates, or acquaintances.

This reflection is also the Gift of all relationship. Why? Because the whole purpose of us being here in the dualistic material world is to see ourselves and learn to Love what we see—all of ourselves, just as we are.

The dualistic material world provides the mirror by separating our shared higher Self—call it Spirit—into self and other, into me and you. When we stand facing each other, we're seeing ourselves as though from an outside perspective. Moreover, each of us holds a unique key to us all discovering our shared spiritual Oneness.

If the greater truth of the world is that everything is One, then you must be a part of me, and I must be a part of you.

When we begin to realize this, it changes everything about the way we see and relate to others. When I truly see that you are me, and I am you, I'm no longer attracted to you or repelled from you. Now I'm able to "love" you unconditionally. What's more, I'm now inspired to help you, to help others, to pass on what I've been given in some way, and to take part in the wonder and joy of watching others grow, heal, evolve, and become awakened human beings.

As we help others in this way, it breaks down the dam inside us. The Universe flows through us once again. This allows us to accept new energy, new consciousness, and new learning.

When a group of people with a common Quest thinks in this way and is there for each other, in shared Presence, realizing that each is a mirror of the other and each contributes to a greater Oneness, something magical happens—something synergistic. Again, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

So, this is why a school of consciousness is set up the way it is, according to certain universal laws that have been known for thousands of years.

So, we really mean it when we say, "Share your journey with kindred souls..." It's not just because it's nice to do so; it's because it's imperative for all of us—for our individual and collective evolution of consciousness.
